Our year 2012 begins at Fortuna Pond, Yuma, Arizona.
The crew and I camp at Fortuna Pond (BLM, free) until January 13th when we move to Quartzsite, Arizona, and camp with friends for a few days at Dome Rock (BLM, free). Our next camp is Painted Rock ($4), a few miles north of Interstate 8. We only stay one night as we’re on our way back to Darby Well Road (BLM, free) in the Sonoran Desert outside of Ajo, Arizona. Bridget, Spike, and I remain at this camp for the rest of the month.
Notable this month are the expenditures under Equipment.
Our purchases at the Big Q include two, really nice, camp chairs, LED bulbs, a hat, and a tire pressure gauge, among other things. Also in January I bought an inverter, a folding, charcoal grill, several storage drawers, and a rug, the latter two items part of a rare binge of interior decorating. Unusual for me are restaurant meals; two of them in January! Propane costs reflect that it’s winter, even in Arizona.
These expenditures are offset by only $4 in camping fees for the month.
