Spike, My CoPilot

Spike is a rat terrier mix.

I took Spike off of death row at the local humane society several years ago so I don’t know his exact breed or his age.  He does a lot of rat terrier things, like act nutty, insist on sleeping under the covers, and talk, as well as bark.  He appreciates the luxurious things life has to offer…  comfy covers, soft pillows, warm soaks, body rubs, chicken fingers, taking a sun bath, and the usual dog stuff like rawhide chews.

He’s terrified of thunder and lightning.

He also suffers from separation anxiety, which he probably wouldn’t have if not egged on by Bridget, The Big Baby.

I promise not to bore you too often with how cute Spike and Bridget are.  I’ll also try not to give them their own voices here on the blog.  I don’t know that I want to give them any chance to share an opinion.  And you probably don’t want to hear it anyway!

UPDATE AFTER THREE MONTHS:  Well, I didn’t keep my promise.  Apparently I am letting the frequent cute-attacks of the crew spill over into the blog.  I’m trying to keep the canine influence in check.  However, I am weak and outnumbered.

Hey, I love this site!!!! I will be following you.

I’m glad you like the site. I wish you were here so you could help me learn how to do it right! I’ll be adding more photos to break up the text. I left them on a flash drive at work.

I complement you on the choice of soon to be lifestyle —and your well reasoned approach in implementing it. Por ejemplo, your choice of a tow vehicle/trailer will allow additional freedom of movement and free you from some of the maintenance issues that come with motor homes. At the very least, the maintenance issues will be easier to get at. Hopefully, you’ll also get an edge in the mileage department as well. The hook-un-hook drill will help keep you in shape. . . .

I’ve been sporadically following George and his crew for several years, so why not “favorite” an RV team with more than one sentient being (his bird never counted). Your website banner picture is more attractive anyway. Best wishes.

You know, George, I really appreciate you giving the thumbs up on my newly purchased tow vehicle. You reminded me why I chose it. I’ve only had it for a day and your post may just keep away the dreaded buyer’s remorse!

As for George, it’s okay to have two or more “favorites.” Then you get different perspectives and situations. Thanks so much for your intention of following me and the crew. .. and for the compliment!

I think Spike is adorable and I really enjoy reading about him and Bridget. Spike sounds a lot like my Chancy. He is a lucky little dog and I am happy to know you rescued him. Hugs and nose kisses sweet Spike.

Oh, I forgot! The slideshow is great. Good job! Hugs

    Sue,
What is your route? How do we email you should we be on the way and want the opportunity to meet for coffee??
PS can you see my email on this post?

    • rvsueandcrew says:

      m (first name?)

Yes, I can see your email. Do you go by m or did WordPress do a number on your name? If this is your first post, welcome! I think I saw that you subscribed to this blog?

All along my plan was to go to NM, buy the annual state park pass, explore the high elevations in the summer, meander to the south for the winter.

Now I’m toying with the idea of going north to SD, get registration and license taken care of, and then meander back to NM before I get snowed in!’

That’s what appeals to me about this way of life. Nothing is set in stone.

  6. Oh, love your blog, found u when i was visiting OFM! Your Bridget sounds like my Luci! Aren’t they loves tho? Take Care..will be following where u go.

Your dogs sound an awful lot like my Jack Russell terrier (terror!). What a pain she is but we love her to death. My kids say she get treated better than they ever did!

I also went to Cambridge Central. Left the area around 1953 but my grandparents were still there for many years. I lived right across the street from Miekelknox on S. Union Street. After all these years I still think of it as home.

    • rvsueandcrew says:

      Hello, Joan!

There’s something about Cambridge that stays with you no matter where life takes you. It will always be my home, too, even though I’ve been gone over four decades.

Rat terriers are a lot like Jack Russells, maybe not quite as energetic. I’m partial to terriers of any kind. I don’t know why, they’re so darn stubborn.

Nice to meet you on my blog!

I’m one of those that love to see pictures of and hear about your crew. Definitely doesn’t bore me. Nice to know you are in AZ with all the sunshine – well at least until the rain moves in tomorrow. Lots of places for solitude that are full of beauty and wonderful surprises.

I have enjoyed reading your blogs and looking at the pictures (especially). Glad to hear Spike is feeling better. It’s such a helpless feeling when pets are ill. My husband and I hope to be able to do some similar traveling when he retires, so it’s great to get a feel for what it’s like. I’ll keep reading, thanks so much

  10. Hello RvSue :) I linked to you from ” A life made simple ” blogspot, then to the ” Bayfield Bunch” then finally to yours. I’m not yet a ” Full time rver but hope to be someday. I too have a rescued rat terrier who’s terribly afraid of thunder ( and MANY other things). I’m wondering if you’ve heard of the “thundershirt”. I just ordered one from amazon.com. You can go to http://www.thundershirt.com and watch a video of how it works. Funny too, there is a dog on the video that resembles yours and mine too, rat terrier mix. Well, I was just passing thru and thought I’d make this quick suggestion. Happy Travels to you and your crew.

I have just started the RV lifestyle after my wife passed away last month. She was so hoping that we could do it together but she died before allowing her dream to come true. I’m in Jacksonville, Florida right now after moving down here from Seattle. My wife wanted to be with her family here before she died. Hope to meet you on the road someday. I love reading your blog Keep up the good work. Both you and Tioga George are two of my favorites. We enjoy keeping up with Gordon and Juanita Pierce (see the usa in our chevrolet). Take care and Gud Luk!!!, Your Friend-Don
